PILKINGTON K GLASS IS VERY SPECIAL GLASS.
Used in your windows, patio doors or conservatory, it will give you Lower fuel bills, Greater Comfort,
Reduced Condensation and its kind to the environment too. Clever technology from Pilkington Glass...making
better windows.

WHY IS PILKINGTON K GLASS SO SPECIAL?
PILKINGTON K GLASS
has a special coating developed by Pilkington
Glass technologists to significantly improve the performance of double
glazing. This coating - called a Low Emissivity or Low E coating - reduces
the heat lost through your windows by reflecting the heat from fires and
radiators back into your rooms, reducing the heat lost and your fuel bills.
Although it reflects back heat from fires and radiators, the coating still
allows heat from the sun to enter your home. And once inside this free
heat is trapped by the coating, helping to warm your home. But that's not
all, the coating also makes the windows themselves warmer, so that your
home is more comfortable with no 'cold spots' near the windows. And,
because the windows are warmer, unsightly and unwanted condensation is
reduced. You probably have some other questions of your own about
PILKINGTON K GLASS, so for the answers read on.

WHY IS YOUR HOME MORE COMFORTABLE?
Eliminating 'Cold Spots'.
The surface of a single glazed window is cold. Because glass on
its own is a poor insulator, it is inefficient at keeping your heat in -
and the cold out. Heat from your room is lost, and you have
uncomfortable 'cold spots' near your windows. And when you sit near
to a single glazed window in winter you feel cold and uncomfortable
because you body also loses heat to this cold surface. The airspace
in ordinary double glazing improves the insulation and the surface of the
inner pane is not as cold as single glazing, so you don't feel as
uncomfortable. However, double glazing incorporating PILKINGTON K
GLASS has even better insulation, so the surface of the inner pane is
even warmer than that of ordinary double glazing, and much warmer
than that of single glazing. As a result the uncomfortable 'cold spots'
near to your windows are virtually eliminated; you can sit near
the windows without feeling cold. Your home is a much more
comfortable place in which to live.

CONSERVATORIES.
Conservatories, because they are nearly all glass, and
especially if they are unheated, are one area of the home which
can really benefit from the increased insulation of
PILKINGTON K GLASS. Because it virtually eliminates
'cold spots' you can use your conservatory for much longer periods
in the year without feeling uncomfortable. If your conservatory is heated,
using PILKINGTON K GLASS will bring all the benefits of improved
insulation, reduced heat loss and lower fuel bills and give you an extra
room to use throughout the year - whatever the weather.

WHY IS CONDENSATION REDUCED?
Condensation forms when warm, moist air comes into
contact with a cold surface. The most common place
for condensation to form in the home is on the glass in
windows, patio doors and conservatories especially if a lot
of moist air is being produced either by occupants
cooking, or somebody taking a shower. Because single
glazed windows are so cold, condensation readily forms
on the surface. The surface of an ordinary double
glazed window is warmer, so the likelihood of condensation
forming is reduced. With PILKINGTON K GLASS installed in
your double glazing, the surface of the inner glass is so
warm that condensation on the glass is virtually eliminated.

HOW DOES THE SUN WARM MY HOME?
All glass lets in heat from the sun in a form known as 'short wave' radiation. This
radiation is absorbed by the walls and floor of the home and is then given off (re-radiated)
in a form known as 'long wave' radiation. This is the type of heat that is produced by your fires
and radiators. It is this 'long wave' heat that the special coating on PILKINGTON K GLASS
reflects back into your home, so the free heat from the sun is trapped by the coating and
helps to subsidize your heating bills. You may be thinking that this could cause your home to be
unbearably hot during summer, but this is not the case. The added insulation provided by the
PILKINGTON K GLASS coating is at its most effective when there is a significant difference
between the inside and outside temperatures, as would be the case in winter. In summertime, the
difference in these temperatures is very small (they may even be the same), so the extra insulating
effect of PILKINGTON K GLASS is suppressed, and your home does not become unbearably hot.
